The Joy of Hobbies

February 26, 2024

Here is a practice work by an adult student created in the warm and friendly atmosphere of our classroom.

After nearly six months of effort, they completed a masterpiece book featuring 20 poems from the Hyakunin Isshu.

She carefully selected paper textures, colors, and layouts that suited her taste from various antique shops and 100-yen stores.
With much creativity and enjoyment, she completed this one-of-a-kind book.
Through this process of trial and error, she joyfully began her own style of Hyakunin Isshu creation.

We are currently working on the 33rd poem.
Once she completes 40 poems, she hopes to improve the way the booklet is bound and make some creative enhancements.

Other students have also started showing interest in compiling their practice works from classics such as Oku no Hosomichi, The Pillow Book, Lantingji Xu, and Thousand Character Classic.
The classroom atmosphere is becoming lively and energetic.

Even in the cold season, spring is approaching nearby.
It is a time when various ideas begin to sprout.

Together, we cherish the time spent enjoying this pleasure, holding our brushes in hand.
